The Flexible Path

is your portal to the #heartlife you desire

 

You deserve it! You’ve got a lot going on but you have already come this far and I know you can go the next leg. Flexibility will be your guide toward the #heartlife that is you living out your whole-hearted, authentic self. Livin’ your #heartlife is freeing. It allows you to be the person inside that’s yearning to emerge, to make real your destiny. You know, the life you think about when you imagine what life could be.

 

I see you over there. You give so much of yourself to others. And you’ve still got things you want to do. There is lots going on and you don’t have a lot of free time, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a yearning for that next thing. It’s okay to want that something more, to set your sights on the next thing. I’ve been there, the wanna-be super-Mom icing cupcakes at midnight for the party at school the next day, the careerwoman achiever trying to please an impossible boss, and just wanting a couple guilt-free hours of alone time to read a juicy novel...

 

... and from where I am now, I’m here to tell you that carving out a path to get there is possible without adding to the overwhelm. There are routes around the chaos. You don’t need to feel you are spinning out of control all the time. You can still get where you want to go, avoid burnout and keep your sanity. The right path will get you there.

There’s been a lot of upheaval in our world lately. Plans have been scuttled; we’ve all had to change course countless times. However, what better time is there than this Great Reset to take back some control, to reconnect with your heart, and to make sure you’re headed where you want to go.

Here are the first few landmarks on your Flexible Path roadmap.

 

Landmark #1 - Knowing

Stop multi-tasking and start mono-tasking

 

The neuroscience is clear – you function better when you focus on one thing at a time. For all but a tiny slice of the population, it’s an illusion that you can do two things at once. You are really just switching between the two things in rapid succession. This rapid switching actually impairs your thinking and productivity. When you focus on a single task you cultivate an attentiveness that enhances how you retain information, supports better decision-making and reduces stress. It seems counter-intuitive to focus on just one thing when you have so much to do, but you will be further ahead if you take it one task at a time.

 

 

Landmark #2 - Doing

Take a walk

 

A sense of overwhelm is the sign of cumulative stress. Something as simple as taking a walk is an accessible antidote. Taking a walk gets you away from a potentially stressful environment. The physical movement creates an outlet for loosening physical tension, gets more oxygen into your body and releases endorphins that boost pleasure. This can open a new perspective and allow you to return in a different frame of mind.

 

 

Landmark #3 - Being

Kick perfection to the curb

Perfection is the enemy of excellence and inner peace. Choose to aim high without the pressure to be perfect. News flash... no one is perfect, and it only paralyzes you from taking action on the things you can be great at. (Believe me, I know from experience, perfection used to be my middle name!) To stop shooting for perfection does not mean you’ll slide into laziness and your goals will unravel. Science tells us that it can actually help you excel more. Give yourself a little more wiggle room and shift your energy from critical judgment to appreciating the good in yourself and others.

 

 

Landmark #4 - Together

Ask for help

 

Doing everything all the time is a recipe for burnout. And yet, so many women are reluctant to ask for help or accept it when it is offered. Getting help is not a sign of weakness, instead it is a sign of wisdom and builds valuable community. Who do you have in your life that you can turn to for help? Meet your guide!

Hi there! I’m Daranne (yes like the band, Duran Duran, though, as you can see, spelled differently).

 

I went from the little girl with a big heart to the C-suite executive where suddenly my heart-driven leadership was seen as a hindrance. I loved my work, but the job was destroying my soul. I went from bounding out the door with energy to counting the minutes until I might escape the office. I wanted to hide to keep away from all the subtle moves to devalue or strip away what made me shine. My light was going out. I brought my stress home and that messed with family life too. Something had to give, and I decided it couldn’t be that life-source within me!

 

So, I left to pursue PhD research on the science of compassion and I’ve never looked back. The research process deepens my understanding of how we process the world around us and how it affects us. Science provides tools to enhance personal and collective wellbeing. By integrating the latest findings in neuroscience and psychology with ancient wisdom traditions, I’ve developed my own framework to help ambitious women move from stuck and unsatisfied to heart-centered fulfilment and joy.
